Continuing the Story

Some of you may remember a project that started back near the turn of the century to share the history of Barrie Speedway. A bunch of people contributed a lot of memories, pictures, files and more to what was already a decent sized collection that my family had gathered dating back to the track opening in 1965. We were not around for the first two years and missed a few along the way but everyone helped out.

Well time rolls on and a departure from the local scene for a few years led to the termination of the website that carried all the stuff that had been gathered. But now as the cycle goes, we are back at it and the Speedway is again reborn under new ownership and once again it seems that we really should on occasion salute those who provided the thrills and spills in byegone days.

Now this time around we have a whole new way to share the information. Perhaps a more informal way and one that is also a little on the interactive side as well. Plus we are more integrated with the Speedway itself and have some interesting ideas that you might read more about in the times ahead.

For those of you who missed the stories the first time around, what we have is a massive collection of pictures, programs and historical anecdotes drawn from private collections from names that have been around the venerable Speedway for a long time. Some of whom are still here and many are around in younger generations. Contributors have included Betty Eacott, Gary Fulton, Diane Hunter, Peter Schotanus, Bill Stefnik, Larry Stefnik, Garry Reynolds, Bill Twaddle, Glen Watson and likely more I've forgotten for now. I know that there were several others who had volunteered that I had not gotten to yet. Hopefully this time around I will.
